Description: Dec. 1863 Clothing Received for Co. E, 3rd Regt. P.R.V.C. - Captain Johnson The document in used condition overall, showing tears, wear on all edges, spotting, lots of creasing, is folded, some tears in several folds(tape will assist), & dirt. Lots of names on this Return, with their signatures on it. Pennsylvania 32nd Infantry / 3rd Pennsylvania Reserve - Recruited mainly from Philadelphia and Bucks County and mustered for three years at Harrisburg on July 27, 1861. They immediately became the 3rd Regiment of the 2nd Brigade under Brigadier General George G. Meade. They participated in the reconnaissance to Dranesville in Oct., 1861; the operations of the Army of the Potomac on the Peninsula in the spring of 1862 including the Battles of Mechanicsville, Gaines Mill, Glendale and Malvern Hill. They joined the Army of Virginia in August of 1862, with which it was active at the second Bull Run and in reserve at Chantilly. They returned to the Army of the Potomac and was engaged at South Mountain, Antietam and Fredericksburg. In February, 1863 the regiment was ordered to Washington and assigned to the 22nd Army Corps, remaining there until January, 1864. They were then ordered to West Virginia to Martinsburg where they remained on picket duty until given orders to move to New Creek in pursuit of the enemy until February 6th. The regiment then moved to Martinsburg, Vanclevesville, Harper's Ferry and then to Webster. On April 22, 1864 they marched to Parkersburg, Brownstown on the Great Kanawha River and up to Fayette, the mission being to destroy the communication through the Virginia and Tennessee railroad. On May 9, 1864, the command engaged the enemy at Cloyd's Mountain successfully, but suffered heavy losses. On May 19th the command reached Meadow Bluff.
