Description: This is a beautifully bound antique copy of Richard Wagner's famous opera, "Das Rheingold/The Rhine Gold." This English/German version dates circa 1904, when G. Schirmer publisher was given the copyright for the English version of this masterpiece. Bound in an expensive library binding that has held up beautifully. Although this opera appears to have been rebound in 2001 by the library (probably to keep it from falling apart), the opera within is one of the original published versions, as can be seen from the paper quality and print style. This is one of the only original English publishings of the score available for sale. The complete score of Das Rheingold opera - the first part of the 4 part epic, "The Ring of the Nibelung" - is here in this book, in both English and German. The English version was written by Frederick Jameson. Only a couple of minor flaws - on a couple of the front pages are some minor blue pen markings, but the rest of the book is clean. Also, on the first page of the opera, there is a small tear at the bottom...otherwise, no other tearing throughout the book. The binding and condition of this book are excellent - perfect for collector's concerned with posterity. If you consider yourself a connoisseur of the Masters, this is the right addition to your library. A spectacular piece of art and history.
