Description: Currier & Ives Lithograph Sunday in the Olden Time Small Folio c. 1872-1874 Currier & Ives (American, 1834-1907) From a Painting by William Collins RA After an Engraving by S W Reynolds ‘Sunday in the Olden Time.’ c. 1872-1874 Small Folio, Hand-colored Lithograph (image) 8 7/16” high x 12 7/16” wide (sheet) 10 1/8” high x 14” wide (rabbet) 10 3/16” high x 13 1/8” wide (frame outer) 12 ¼” high x 16 ¼” wide Description: A church spire can be seen in a wooded clearing with the local population making its way along the path, a grey pony is waiting to take the elder woman to Sunday church outside a local cottage of a young family. The Reynolds engraving is dedicated “to all Christians” and the Currier & Ives large folio version (not this small folio version) includes the verse: “O day most calm, most bright. the fruit of this, the next world’s bud, The indorsement of supreme delight, Writ by a friend, and with his blood. The couch of time, care’s balm and bay, the week were dark but for they light, thy torch doth show the way. ~ George Herbert Condition: Antique, Very Good For Accuracy: an antique item it may show expected light signs of age. Both the frame and lithograph are excellent with a clear image, strong colours, and minimal age-related toning. The early frame has a small chip to the lower right corner; it is ready for display.
