Description: The Culver Summer Naval School was founded on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee in 1894, (I found the date 1902 used in the academy’s brochure). The academy began its unique summer naval program, hailed as “the only naval school west of the Atlantic Coast” in 1902. Three years later, it had “125 students from twenty different states.” This card, postmarked 1906, around the time of the beginning of the academy, chronicles “Boat Drill, Culver Summer Naval School”. The UDB has some general aging and stains but is in generally good condition with minor wear and a clean, clear image of the young sailors learning their boating skills. The reverse shows the same aging but is otherwise clean. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated. If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment......
