Image of this ship by Joshua Beschutzer printed in color on cachet #2633 by Alvin Eckert, #9964, USCS. Cover franked with a 6 cent Stone Mountain stamp # 1408 and a 57 cent flag stamp # 5657 (FDOI). Cover prepared on an Archive Quality Envelope without gum on the flap. CSS Columbia: a 216' iron-clad ram steamer, built in 1864 in Charleston. She was built in the harbor and defended the city until she was damaged on a sunken wreck 12 January 1865. She was salvaged in April 1865 by Union forces. They towed her to Hampton Roads, as the war ended, where repairs were discontinued and her hulk scrapped in 1867.
