HISTORY/MARKS: Thomas Allen Green and Spencer Green were brothers who bought out other family members in 1876 of a business that could be traced back to 1801. The pottery was located at Minerva Works in Fenton, Staffordshire, England. The company traded as T.A. & S. Green until incorporated as Crown Staffordshire Porcelain Co. Ltd in 1903. The company was an important exporter to North America and continued limited production during WWII. In 1946, the company purchased Heron Cross Pottery to expand production. In 1948, the name was changed to Crown Staffordshire China Co. Ltd. The firm continued to be owned & operated by the Green family until 1964 when Semart Importing Co. (the US distributor of Crown Staffordshire) acquired the firm. The Crown Staffordshire name was used until it became part of the Wedgwood Group in 1974. The mark is identified by Geoffrey A. Godden’s (Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks) as #1152 which was used in the 1930-1974 time period. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
