This lead Lucy to study agricultural microbiology at the University of Tennessee where where she wrote a thesis paper on the topic of growing high-quality food in pastures which was recognized among both the traditional farming industry and soil health enthusiasts alike. After graduating from the university, Mema returned back home to take over her family farm. Within her first four years of being back, Mema had two horses running in the Kentucky derby and she had received over a dozen national beef cattle awards.
