This piece is genuine amber formed over millions of years of polymerization. Burmite (Burmese) amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs and is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma).This is a fully polished and cabochon shaped piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a fat, True bug (Order Hemiptera). It may have spread disease. This bug is from the Cretaceous Period when dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops still walked the Earth! The piece itself weighs 0.7 grams with approximate dimensions of 1.9 cm length by 1.3 cm width and 0.4 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch. Please mouse over or click on images to see a larger view. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink.
