Description: This is a rare October 31st, 1898 program (playbill) from the two-night engagement of CRESTON CLARKE and his Acting Company in repertory at the Great Southern Theatre in Columbus, Ohio. On Friday night, November 4th, 1898, the company presented the Post-Broadway engagement of the CRESTON CLARKE romantic play "THE LAST OF HIS RACE". (The Original Broadway production of "The Last of his Race" opened April 4th, 1898 at the People's Theatre in New York City.) On Saturday afternoon, November 5th, 1898, the company presented the T. W. ROBERTSON play "DAVID GARRICK". (The Original Broadway production of "David Garrick" opened August 16th, 1869 at the Theatre Comique in New York City.) On Saturday evening, November 5th, 1898, the company presented the CHARLES SELBY romantic drama "THE MARBLE HEART". (The drama "The Marble Heart" is best known as the play President Abraham Lincoln attended in 1863, shortly after the newly refurbished Ford's Theatre in Washington reopened following a disastrous fire. The star of "The Marble Heart" was John Wilkes Booth as the villain "Raphael", in his first appearance at Ford's Theatre.) ..... All three plays starred CRESTON CLARKE and the remaining members of the company included ADELAIDE PRINCE (Mrs. Creston Clarke), JOHN CARTER, GEORGE D. PARKER, Mr. J. J. SAMBROOK, RODNEY BURTON, Mr. P. S. BARRETT, FREDERIC FORRESTER, WALTER PERCIVAL, Mr. G. EVERSLEIGH, Mr. L. B. GREY, GUSTAVE COUTTS, Mr. C. YORKE, Miss ALICE GALE, Miss LUCY STONE, Miss E. HAYWOOD, Miss INA BROOKS and Miss EDITH GALE ..... CREDITS: Orchestra conducted by H. G. SIMPSON; Produced and Directed by CRESTON CLARKE ..... DETAILS: The sixteen page program measures 8 1/2" X 8 7/8" inches and includes production credits, cast lists, synopsis of scenes, music program and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) There is a clean punched hole in the top left corner, heavy creasing from having been folded into quarters, light soiling, several small edge tears and moderate edge wear. Also, the advertisements inside the front and back covers were printed upside down. Despite these flaws, this rare program will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
