Description: CORGI CC60504 1/50 HENSCHEL SD.KFZ.181 TIGER, GERMAN ARMY, KURT SOWA, STAVELOT, BELGIUM JUNE 1944 This Tiger was used by Sergeant Kurt Sowa in June 1944 during the Normandy campaign. On June 13, 1944, this tank was borrowed by Commanding Officer Michael Wittman for a reconnaissance mission north of Villers-Bocage. This mission brought him immortality for his single-handed fight with the 4th County of London Yeomanry. This Tiger was one of the few to survive the Falaise Pocket, but was destroyed during the Battle of the Bulge while fighting over a bridge near Stavelot. Henschel Sd.Kfz.181 Tiger Production of the Tiger began in August 1942, and by August 1944 1,355 of these tanks had been built. The 88mm main gun was the most powerful anti-tank gun in use by any army. The superior mobility of Allied tanks allowed them to attack from behind or from the side in the hope of taking a Tiger down. The influence of Tiger tanks on allied morale grew to almost mythical proportions, and was known as "Tigerphobia." Tigers destroyed tremendous amounts of enemy equipment and often just the sight of a Tiger would induce the Russian tankers to withdraw.Corgi "Classics" diecast military vehicles feature:Diecast metal construction with some plastic components.Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals. Many limited editions with numbered certificate of authenticity.Selected moving parts such as gun turrets and control surfaces.Limited Edition model – certificated 2,700 produced worldwide.
