Description: Welcome to my listing for the Ultra rare and desirable 1/72 Scale Corgi Aviation Archive Republic P47D-25 Thunderbolt this is AA33805. An underrated release, a late war Razorback “D” model Jug. This particular aircraft was on strength with the USAAF 460th Fighter Squadron 348th Fighter Group, when based on Leyte during late 1944. Named “Bonnie” she was the mount of US ace & O/C of the 348th Maj William D “Dingy” Durnham. As the 348th FG's second most successful ace, Dunham almost certainly scored his final four P-47 kills in this particular fighter. Pacific based this airframe #227894 is superbly marked in a mixed scheme of olive drab wing surfaces, anti glare panel and aft of the razorback the remainder of top surfaces and underside a natural metal / silver. She has extensive victory & mission markings under the cockpit and the name “Bonnie” nose art on the engine cowl 2 x black vertical stripes on the rear fuselage, one on the tail and a Prewar style candy stripe rudder, the look is completed with late war US national markings. Long sold out, this 1/ 72 scale release was limited to 2900 this is cert 2744. Model Is New Plane 10/10 Box 9.5+++/10, some minor shelf wear. Bought and stored this has never been removed from packaging or displayed. Bought and stored, all accessories included, I will consider reasonable offers. One of a number of Rare, limited or interesting releases I'm putting up for sale over the next few days. I will happily combine postage, answer questions or provide additional images International offers welcomed, the E-Bay system used but I can and will quote for other methods if it suits Republic P-47D Thunderbolt & Maj “Dingy“ Dunham Designed by Alexander Kartveli meeting a USAAC requirement for a heavy fighter, the P-47 was first flown on May 6th, 1941. Later models featured a "bubble-top" canopy rather than the sharply peaked "razorback" fuselage which resulted in poor visibility for the aircraft's pilot. The P-47, a deadly pursuit aircraft, featured 8 x 12.7mm machine guns; all mounted in the wings. Even with the complicated turbosupercharger system, the sturdy airframe and tough radial engine, the P-47 ("Jug" or "Juggernaut" as it was nicknamed) could absorb damage and still return home. Built in greater quantities than any other US fighter, the P-47 was the heaviest single-engine WWII fighter and the first piston-powered fighter to exceed 500 mph. Dinghy' Dunham scored his first seven victories in a P-47D-2 called 'Bonnie' but by late 1944 had moved onto a P-47D-25 also called 'Bonnie' and now extravagantly showing a host of kill markings. As the 348th FG's second most successful ace, Dunham almost certainly scored his final four P-47 kills in this particular fighter. He left his beloved 460th FS in mid-December 1944 to become assistant group operations officer, prior to returning home in January 1945 to attend a gunnery course. He re-joined the group in May 1945 to find the P-47's replaced by Mustangs and it was in one such P-51K called 'Mrs Bonnie' that he scored his sixteenth and final victory on 1st August.
