Continental Currency Fr#CC-5 May 10, 1775 $5 PMG 30 *John Bayard Signature*

Description: The May 10, 1775 issue was the very first issue of Continental currency. This $5 note features an emblem of a hand gathering food and bleeding due to thorn pricks. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE” (Either survive or give up). The reverse features nature print of betony and sage leaves. Additionally, this note bears the signature of John Bayard. Bayard was a member of the Continental Congress, and a Colonel in the Continental Army. Incredible bold ink on the front and back. Neat note for the price with nice eye appeal for a VF and the signature of an important Founding Father. Signers: William Craig, John Bayard* Date: May 10, 1775 Denomination: $5 Friedberg #: CC-5 State: Continental Certification: PMG Grade: 30 Comments: “Edge Damage, Stains, Annotation”
