James Esleck, in charge of the St. John Del Rey Mines (folio, 3 pp., 16 July 1867); (3) A Sussinct Description of the Mine and Property Called Morro da Gloria, Situated in the Province of Minas Gerais, Brazil, Six Miles South of the Morro Velho Mine, by Henrique Dumont, graduate of the Central School of Paris (folio, 2 pp., 2 January 1867); (4) Morr da Gloria Mine: General Remarks on the Accompanying Reports, by W. H. Richards (folio, 8 pp., 14 December 1869). Written on rectos only; pinned together in the upper corner. Some soiling, but very good. The reports are positive, encouraging investment. Drutzch: 'This mine is situated in the centre of a district famed for the Aurifirons properties of its mountains. Five miles north are the lucrative mines of the successfulGold Mining Co. in Brazil." Esleck: " I believe Morro da Gloria to be one of the most promising mines in Brazil." Dumont: "The gold is of the best quality." Richard Burton, after exploring the Minas Gerais region during the period of these reports, devoted several chapters in Explorations of the Highlands of Brazil (London, 1869) to Morro Velho, mentioning the first three authors of these reports and their work at other mines, but also commenting on the one at issue here: "beyond it lies the Morro da Gloria Mine, belonging to five proprietors. The pyrites, finely crushed by six head of old Brazilian chapas, yields per ton 5/8ths of an ounce of 21-carat gold."
