Description: This item is being sold for the employee holiday fund at the continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Maine where I live with my husband. All items are donated by the residents of the community and the net proceeds of all sales go to the fund that is distributed annually to the wonderful staff who help the many elderly residents here. I will give all the information I can about each item, but I am not the original owner. I have here the COMPLETE Set of the Diary of Samuel Pepys Vols 1-8 Edited by Wheatley 1924 Published by G. Bell in 3 Leather Bound Books. This is a beautiful set and would look incredible sitting on any bookshelf. The three books are in very good condition given their age; the bindings are very much intact. Two of the books had some pages folded (for many years it looks like!). I have flattened them but they are probably permanently creased. There are also brown spots on the outer edges of the pages and the pages that were bent. It seems that any exposed area of the pages has these brown spots/flecks. The top of the pages looks like they had a gold gilt edging, much has worn off and that might be the brown flecks. The corners and edges of each book have wear (see pics) but again, binding are VERY MUCH INTACT!The books are as follows:Vol I-III – 1959-1663Vol IV – VI 1664-1667Vol VII – VIII 19667-1669 The first page reads: The Diary of Samuel Pepys. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Co. 1924 It’s a great set, I do hope someone can add these to their library/collection.
