Description: Magazine only -- well, not exactly. Command Magazine Issue 49 was scheduled to have a highly anticipated game on the American Civil War. But there were problems, and the game was not ready on schedule to publish with the magazine. The company had previously shared that it was undergoing some changes to increase efficiency so most subscribers would have likely accepted a delay in the Civil War Game. However, management made a decision to substitute another game- a game of Chess, rather than notifying the magazine subscribers of the situation. Let's just say that the subscribers' response, and the reply by management, was less than pleasant. Some of you may remember that issue and the company problems that followed.Issue 53 with game "Iron Dream" would be the last issue. Several games in the pipeline would later be published by other companies, such as Reds by GMT.Why the title Waterloo Retreat to Victory when there was supposed to be a civil war game in issue 49? Command magazine titles reflected the major article not the game in the magazine. Command magazines without games were also sold through retail stores. So here you have a magazine with truly a great article discussing the history of the battle of Waterloo, in three parts, complete with full-color maps. I have included pictures from the magazine to illustrate what a fine product it was. AND you get Volume 1 of "Warmaster Chess 2000" game and rulebook, suggested retail $17.95.
