Final pair of images show plants offered for sale, fully rooted in NZ AAAA sphagnum in 3.5"/9 cm rose pots. Evidence of a few old aphid bites on older leaves but otherwise very clean and healthy. Columnea sp. cf. incarnata is a beautiful cloud forest gesneriad native to the highlands of western Panamá. This species has been collected and photographed in nature near the Cerro Colorado Mine in Veraguas Province (see image above). Unlike most members of the genus, this a highly succulent, somewhat woody-stemmed plant with a upright to slightly spreading growth habit. The leaves are relatively large and a deep, glossy green and the lower surfaces will be pink-tinged under higher light conditions. Easy to grow under both cool and war conditions but must be kept well-watered. Other than care to avoid aphid infestations in spring and summer, this is is very straightforward in cultivation. This accession was originally collected by staff of a well-known Panamanian orchid nursery in the late 1990s and later transferred to a US botanical garden. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
