Description: In 1953, Uruguay’s Club de Grabado de Montevideo (The Montevideo Engraving Club, CGM) was founded with a revolutionary idea: make art accessible and available to everyone through printmaking. Basically, it was Uruguay’s first art subscription service. At the start in 1953, a single engraving artist would create 100 copies of one design each month and distribute it among its collective members. Some artists mixed colors and tools, like durabor or wood plates and linoleum, to effortlessly make unique prints. By 1964, there were over 1,000 members and around 20 artists involved with the group. This serigraph from 1995 by Javier Bassi is signed and numbered 22 of 60.
