Description: Original Civil War Era US M1855 Socket Bayonet w/ Leather Scabbard - Blade is "US" Marked - For 1855 .58cal Rifle-Musket - Very NICE Condition - RAREUp for sale is an Original Civil War Era US Army Model 1855 Socket Bayonet. This bayonet has the US marking on the blade. This bayonet will fit the .58 caliber Model 1855 Rifle-Musket. The blade and socket are in Very Nice Condition. The tip appears to have been reshaped, see photo. Some minor discoloration on the socket & the blade. No rust or pitting on the socket or the blade. The bayonet is approximately 21" overall length, with a 3" socket with a 0.783" bore, 18 11/16" blade and 16 5/8" face flute. Also included is a Leather Scabbard. This scabbard features the early sewn frog and belt loop. The scabbard has the full leather covering with a brass tip. The brass tip has some minor dents & dings, see photos. Some wrinkling and creasing on the leather. There are no markings on the scabbard. This scabbard looks like it may be a mid-20th century replacement. This bayonet will fit the .58 caliber Model 1855 Springfield Rifle-Musket.
