Here is a comment from another ebayer:"This is going to be the later version of their 1840 blade which is sometimes called a transitional blade - it is in fact a downsized 1840 being 1- 3/16”s wide vs 1- 1/4”s and is closer to the 5/16”s thickness of an 1860 where an 1840 is 3/8”s thick . S&K went to this to compete with the 1860’s being made for and used by the US at the time . The last Ord. Dept. Order for 1840’s was in 1858 so S&K was trying to stay in the game . I have one of these myself but it has the correct brass and grip .
