Description: DATING TO THE 1860’S FASHIONED OF A PLUSH PILE BLACK SILK VELVET AND THIS PIECE WAS ACQUIRED FROM A MUSEUM DEACCESSION. POINTED CAPE COLLAR ENCIRCLES THE NECKLINE AND IS TRIMMED IN TWO ROWS OF SILK PIPING WITH SILK PIPING RUNNING DOWN THE FRONT OPENING AND FULL SWEEP OF THE LONG CAPE. HOOKS CLOSED IN THE FRONT. CONDITION: SOLD AS IT WAS FOUND, REFLECTIVE OF THE CONDITION. THERE IS A MUSEUM ID TAG STITCHED TO THE LINING AND BOTH THE CAPE, COLLAR, AND THE CAPE ITSELF HAVE BEEN RELINED WITH A NEWER FABRIC AND WHEN TOUCHED YOU CAN FEEL THE ORIGINAL BLACK SILK TAFFETA BENEATH, BUT I AM ASSUMING IT IS SHATTERING.
