Identification This painting is by the listed artist, Charles L. A. Smith (1871 - 1937), a listed artist on askART. It is dated 1930. The exact location in California depicted is not known. Per askART, Smith was born in Auburn, Michigan. A self-taught artist, he spent the early part of his career in Chicago. He visited California prior to 1908 and settled in Los Angeles during the 1920s. Smith was the director of the Jonathan Club of Los Angeles until his passing in 1937. He is known for oil and watercolor landscape and portrait paintings. Condition This unframed painting looks good overall, as shown. The paper has no creases, rips, or holes. The edges of the paper are slightly uneven.
