Description: CHARLES de LINTMOONLIGHT AND VINESTOR (1999)1st ed, 3rd printing Condition: VERY GOOD book and jacket, very minor shelfwear. Imagine a city--cold, hard, concrete jungle on the surface, but, down that dark alley or disused cemetery, magic has begun to unravel the gray fabric of realism. Charles de Lint succumbs to his fascination with the outsider in all of us, and writes of lonesome goth kids, newbie lesbians, strippers, Gypsies, angels of death and mercy, and even vampires and ghosts in a style that is remarkably refreshing after so much sword-and-bodice formula fantasy. Moonlight and Vines is a medley of fairy tales for the alternative crowd, with most of his city grrrls and boys sporting combat boots and wounded souls. Commentaries on line: The real crux of his storytelling is the magic his characters find when they need it the most. It's satisfying, and when it happens, it makes a kind of narrative sense. If you can get past the sometimes pretentious prose and his autobiographical quasi-depressive lone wolf identity bleeding through every story, you can access a world saturated with marvels right down to the most everyday things. It's everywhere, and it's beautiful, mirroring your own world and filling it with wonder that you can carry with you. I love De Lint, he's one of my favorites and this collection is a perfect example of why, full of heart, beauty and magic.Onward to the next book! This is so very worth the read!!!! Overall a lovely book full of stories you can dip into whenever you need a dose of magic and spirit. Had it not been for a good friend of mine seeing this book and convincing me to buy it, I don't think I would have ever stumbled upon the work of Charles de Lint. One reason being that I don't typically read collections of short stories. Boy, I am glad I took the plunge! ______________________ (I'll always combine shipping costs and refund any excess shipping charges for multiple-copy book orders.)For all "buy it now" items, please use ADD TO CART if you plan to order more than one item at the same time.______________ WOW!
