Bazin was famous for his swan-head bows. A supremely versatile and musical bow, and a great exemplar for a Bazin bow. The stick is of mid-brown pernambuco with a very attractive wood grain, mounts are silver and ebony, and no brand stamp. There are no significant condition issues either making this bow a rare find as it has few few signs of use. This is a tremendous bow for its price tag, and it would stand comparison with many Charles Peccatte or Lamy Pere bows. It has some of that same quality often found in these bow makers– richness of tone, power without stiffness, and above all adaptability, so that the bow can play across the repertoires. Excellent weight and balance, good attack, a smooth legato… this bow is a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing! Spiccato: Medium, with a crisp sound. Spiccato was played closer to the middle of the bow, away from the hand. Comfort: Comfortable and well balanced. Ease of playing: Easy to play, with consideration to the camber. Camber: The bow follows the camber and is even throughout the draw. Full Sound: Middle. Pairs nicely with a violin of great sound production. Depth: Capable of producing rich, nuanced sounds. Strong bow capable of a variety of textured sound. Price is half what a swan head C.N. Bazin bow would sell for in a violin shop.
