Cestrum buxifolium is an evergreen shrub in the Solanaceae family. Its native range is from Columbia to Venezuela and Peru. The common name is Black Beauty. It is found growing at elevations of 7,500- 13.000 feet. It requires a warm-cool temperature without extreme hot or cold. It can grow to around 6 feet tall and wide but may be trimmed back to the size you need. It can be grown in a container as well. The leaves are glossy and small when established but will get larger the older it gets. The flowers range in color from yellowish to dark purple. It often blooms around every two months. The flowers in the fall are darker than the flowers in July. They are around an inch long, with the ends being star-shaped and yellow. The fruits are purple/black 1/4" in diameter. It prefers to grow in full sun in cooler climates and part shade in warmer temperatures. Zones 9-11 Germination Sow seeds on top of the soil and lightly tamp down and cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-60 days.
