Description: Central Scientific Wall Mount D'Arsonval Mirror Galvanometer Approximately 17" tall x 8" wide.Cast aluminum casing on a beautifully varnished mounting board.Brass hardware. This is a D'Arsonval type mirror galvanometer circa 1915-1930. Built by the Central Scientific Company (CENCO) of Chicago, Illinois, this device was used to signal the detection of small electrical currents before the widespread adoption of more modern ammeters. The device consists of a stationary permanent magnet and a moving coil of wire attached to fine wires at the top and bottom. The wires are tightened to allow the coil to move freely around the magnet without touching it. When a current is passed through the coil, It causes it to spin around the magnet, causing the mirror to rotate with it. Very few of these CENCO models survived through the years, making pieces like this difficult to find. Get yours while you can.
