Description: Celebrating Early Texas Art, Treasures From Dallas-Fort Worth Private Collections 1900-1960, a beautifully done catalogue for an exhibition organized by three early Texas art collector groups held at The Fort Worth Community Arts Center in 2005. This exhibition appears to reflect some serious and very good work being done by collectors who had coalesced by the early 2000s into substantial organizations dedicated to the study and collection of Texas art, a field once ignored but becoming big business at the time and which is even bigger business today. The catalogue has two valuable pieces by the curator of the exhibit, Mark Thistlethwaite of TCU, and by Michael Grauer, then Curator of Art at THe Panhandle-Plains Museum in Canyon. Grauer’s essay is a incisive brief summary of the history of interest in and collecting of Texas art. There is also a very useful reading list on Texas art. But the glory of the catalogue are the 55 color reproductions of Texas art, arranged chronologically. Any collector of Texas art, or person interested in the subject, will appreciate this catalogue.
