Denver, South Park & Pacific Railway Line (DSP&P)/ Denver, Leadville and Gunnison Railway / DL&G / Colorado & Southern Railway / C&S, CS) The Hotel Cassells was devesatated by fire in 1905. See: Cassell's Among the Pines by Larry Bell "For over fifty years, from 1878 until 1930, Cassells flourished as "the oldest and grandest of the Platte Canyon Resorts. This presentation details its complete history, from the origins as a homestead, through the growth, glory days, survival after a devastating fire, eventual decline and closure." A railway depot and post office were located in the unincorporated settlement of Cassells, while another post office was located in the nearby settlement of Chase. Cassell's Hotel was established on the site of Cassells by David N. Cassell, who had moved to Colorado early in 1861. The very first hotel was destroyed in a fire in 1886, and a new building was constructed. The Cassells Hotel was eventually sold to John L. Dower, the son-in-law of J.K. Mullen, a prominent entrepreneur in Denver and became part of a Santa Maria Catholic Youth Camp / Camp Santa Maria. Publisher: "Tribune Pub.
