Carnival Glass Tumbler - India (JAIN)

Description: Vintage carnival glass tumbler manufactured in India in the 1930's by the Jain Glass company in the "Pillars and Rings" pattern in frosted Marigold. Many collectors of carnival glass are unaware that carnival glass was made in India, and many pieces have become quite rare. Frosted marigold Indian carnival glass is relatively scarce until a number of previously undocumented frosted-marigold Indian carnival tumblers surfaced on E-Bay in 2007-2008. Information on Indian glassworks is hard to find and a lack of historical documents makes attribution very difficult. Some are marked: JAIN for the Jain Glass Works, PGW for the Paliwal Glass Works, AVM for AVM Glass Industries, and CB for an unknown Indian glass maker. But not every piece produced by these companies bears their maker’s mark. The Jain Glass Works, founded in 1928, in the northern town of Firozabad, India was undoubtedly the largest and most well-known of the Indian carnival glass manufacturers. The first pieces of irridized Indian carnival glass were made in 1935. Dimensions: 4 1/4" high, mouth 2 7/8", base 1 7/8" Condition: Excellent condition. Used as a display item, with no defects.
