Carnival Glass Tumbler - India (JAIN)

Description: Vintage carnival glass tumbler in the "Pillars" pattern, an apparent variation of the "Pillars and Rings" pattern by the Jain Glass Works in Frosted Marigold. This design omits the Rings and has a double band at the top. This is a carnival glass piece made in India in the 1930's. Many collectors of carnival glass are unaware that carnival glass was made in India, and many pieces have become quite rare. Frosted marigold Indian carnival glass is relatively scarce until a number of previously undocumented frosted-marigold Indian carnival tumblers surfaced on E-Bay in 2007-2008. Information on Indian glassworks is hard to find and a lack of historical documents makes attribution very difficult. Some are marked: JAIN for the Jain Glass Works), PGW for the Paliwal Glass Works, AVM for AVM Glass Industries, and CB for an unknown Indian glass maker. But not every piece produced by these companies bears their maker’s mark. The Jain Glass Works was founded in 1928, in the northern Indian town of Firozabad.
