Description: Purchased in 2019 from an avid collector of fancy agates. Carey Plume agate is now considered "extinct" and the only specimens available on the market are from existing collections. The following is the description of the piece as given to me by the original collector: "This slab could be face-polished for an eye-catching collectors display specimen, or used to cut a couple of cabochon gems. It has the small, fine and delicately detailed red plumes for which Carey is famous, a bit of moss and some interesting jasperized matrix in layers of red, gold and clear. The translucent agate in the plume area goes from bluish gray to golden. There are a few healed formation fractures that should be stable (plumes usually form along veins and fractures, often healing them in the process) and a few angelwing vugs along one edge. The Carey Plume deposit was completely exhausted several decades ago, and rough left over in dealer stock is getting difficult to find today. A nice piece of hard-to-find variety! The slab is on the thick side for plume, and translucency and detail will increase as you sand down and polish your gems. This slab should yield a couple of polished cabochon gems, or give it a simple face polish for a highly collectible display specimen that will look great sitting on a shelf or backlit on a windowsill." What more can you say.....Photos show specimen wet and dry and in natural and artificial lighting. Measures 4.5x1.5x3/8 inch or 110x38x9.9 mm. Weight is 61 grams or 2.1 oz.
