This is the story of Cape Horn region, including the Straits of Magellan from the days of the first discoveres, through the glorious age of sale to the present time; recounting the exploits of Magellan, Drake, Schouten, Fitzroy, Darwin, Melville...etc. Boards show some wear. Binding is still fairly tight. Large book. Many photos and charts, as pictured. The glossy photo pages have some spotting in the margins, and the central fold out photo of Cape Horn has some litho loss in the margins. Text pages fairly clean with some browning at the extremities, and light browning to the text block. Included are a couple of contemporaneous newspaper clippings regarding the book and a note from the John W. Luce Company to a George Parson, the same person to whom the book is inscribed and was an author who wrote a book that the Riesenberg admired, see the photos. Good condition.
