Canada 1939 First Flight Cover - AAMC 3903U - OTTAWA to VANCOUVER (2)

Description: Canada 1939 First Flight Cover - AAMC 3903U - OTTAWA to VANCOUVER1939, March 1 - Trans Canada Air Mail March 1st - 2nd Covers (AAMC Catalogue Description): Montreal - Vancouver - Montreal. On this date, complete route night service was established to provide better next day mail service across Canada. The Post Office Department chose this occasion to furnish the first Trans Canada air mail cachets for dispatches from each of the points on the route, including those Western Winnipeg. 40 official cachets were provided. There are 50 other flight covers possible which received no cachets between the points that are not listed. They are worth twice the prices noted. The mail was flowing in several sections and postmarks and back stamps may be on March 1 or 2, consistently the same for each leg. In addition, there were some dispatches between other points on the TCA routes including feeder points, previously fluent. No cachets we're provided for mail from these points and, all of considerable interest, you're not listed. There were no cacheted dispatches between Montreal and Ottawa or between Montreal and Toronto on this flight. Passenger service began on April 1. At some points, two different postmarks and/ or backstamps were used on the same flight. Uncacheted covers scene include Victoria to Vancouver and return, some from connecting Vancouver mailings.First Flight Covers as popular collectiblesThe 1920’s were a time of great interest in everything to do with aviation. They were also a time when stamp collecting was a very popular hobby. In August 1928, the Canadian National Exhibition decided to organize an air show, as part of the celebrations for its 50th Anniversary. The events included special flights carrying mail to Toronto, one from Windsor, and another from Quebec City, on the opening day of the air show. A fee of 5 cents was charged for each envelope carried on these flights, compared to the normal cost of 2 cents to send a letter at that time. In return for this fee, a commemorative cachet was applied to each envelope carried. The response was terrific! Over 30,000 pieces of mail were carried on the opening day flights, and more than 27,000 on the return flights from Toronto to Windsor and Quebec City at the end of the air show. After this, the Post Office offered a commemorative cachet each time it inaugurated a new airmail service, and also for some special events. Combined shipping offered on purchases made within 5 days! You can reduce your shipping cost per item by bidding on several lots. Shipping is FREE on additional stamp lots won if they are shipped in the same envelope! In order to take advantage of this offer, do NOT pay for each winning bid, one by one. Request an invoice from me when your bidding is finished and pay for all winning lots together.
