Description: This original acrylic 8" x 12" painting on canvas by Rob Ijbema was completed in the early 2000s. The painting features Camille Jenatzy in a Mercedes at the 1903 Gordon Bennett Cup, a race that he won. Jenatzy also set the land speed record three times, becoming the first man to exceed 100km/h. Jenatzy was tragically killed in a hunting accident in 1913 The painting has been framed and is ready for the home. The frame measures 10.5" x 14". While the frame is in very good condition, the paper backing has been cut on two sides as seen in the photo. Numerous pictures were taken to assist with the content and condition of the painting. The 1903 Gordon Bennett Cup was held on July 2nd in Ireland on two different public road courses for a total of 327.5 miles. Following the Belgian born Jenatzy, about 10 minutes behind, were Rene de Knyff and Henri Farman who both drove Panhard's representing France. The artist, Rob Ijbema, was born in Amsterdam in 1961 and currently resides in Wales, United Kingdom. He paints mostly with oils and acrylics in an impressionistic style. Ijbema started as an accomplished modeler and now paints subject matter related to motorsports and cycling. Please review the other racing items I have listed at the eBay store, The Checkered Past.
