Original Fox Film Corporation One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the John Francis Dillon drama, CALL HER SAVAGE (1932) starring Clara Bow, Gilbert Roland, and Thelma Todd. The stardom of Clara Bow, the movies' original flapper, was guided by B.P. Schulberg at Paramount. She was a huge star at Paramount whose outsized party-girl personality largely matched that of her screen persona. But when sound came in, her broad Brooklynese accent didn't comport with the aspiration to high elocution that early sound films often demanded. In this her second-to-last film, she plays a rebellious young woman (a Texan!) who defies her father and moves to Chicago. She makes a bad marriage, and her misfortune almost forces her into prostitution. But when she learns that her mother is dying, she returns to Texas to take care of her. There she learns that she is a "half breed" - half white and half Native American. This wild Indian blood purports to explain her bad behavior. But redemption in the arms of the very handsome Gilbert Roland is just on the horizon. He is an Indian man who has loved her from afar. The film was intended to give Clara Bow some gravitas in the changing landscape of Hollywood in the thirties.
