Description: Wonderful Vintage Cabinet Card Photo of unknown group of young men around table several are smoking cigarettes and cigars with two American Flags in background approx. July 1916 in which we believe to be Queens, NY. Back is blank and card border is gone so photographer unknown. However, we scrutinized the sign at end of table as much as we could including using a magnifying glass. July 30, 1916 was a Sunday and 1916 is noted very small print on sign. We do not know who R.M. Marasco is the sign notes Democratic Association of the 3rd Assembly Dist(rict). Below that it states 'at Washington Park and Casino' with Grand St. Elmhurst? NY address. There is a Grand Avenue in Elmhurst Queens, NY, but we cannot find evidence of a Washington Park and Casino. There is an Elmhurst Park on same street it could be same location and name was changed to Elmhurst at later date. But from this info we are confident this fine looking though mischievous looking group was enjoying the day in Elmhurst, NY. Our guess was they were playing cards or drinking or both and put their vices away for the pic. R.M. Marasco might be Rocco Marasco who emigrated to U.S. (Queens) and may have run for office (but lost) since we cannot find his name in state records on a political level. But we could be wrong. But that's our story and results of our investigation. You take it from here.
