Description: Offered is a colored supplement to the New York Recorder Sunday newspaper in the 1890s. The newspaper existed from 1891-96, and during that time inserted a numbered supplements in each issue. There were a wide variety of themes. The color lithographed images are from the Sunday issue, and there were b/w images are from the daily. It is assumed that the purpose of the serial numbering (was a lottery of some type, wherein if your number or image matched one mentioned in the day's paper, you would win a prize. These are considered the first color newspaper supplements ever issued. * This image is of the USS Enterprise. The fifth USS Enterprise, a barque-rigged screw sloop, was launched 13 June 1874. She was decommissioned in 1909 and burned for salvage in 1910. 6 ½” x 8 ¾”. This has a coupon for discount advertising along the top edge. Good overall condition.
