Description: Presented is a wonderful antique American Victorian 10 karat yellow gold mourning or memorial type ring, dating to circa the 1820s-1840s. The ring is beautifully made, with milgrain finish edges and a channel where a plait of hair could be set, with gold crossbars to keep it in place and relatively protected. The head of the ring is a cartouche area for inscription or engraving, currently blank except for decorative hand engraved detailing around the edges. The ring is in great condition. If there was ever hair set in the channel around the exterior, it is no longer there, but since the head of the ring is also blank with no inscription, it is possible this ring simply was not used. This ring is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 10 karat purity. The ring is a size 8 1/2. The head of the ring is about 5.7 millimeters wide, while the rest of the band is about 4.3 millimeters wide. This ring weighs 1.6 grams. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
