Description: This circa 1900 token (face value: 50¢) is from the company store (commissary) of the Lalande & Toups plantation in Ariel, Louisiana. [NOTE: The town actually was part of Ariel Plantation, the origin of which dated to the early 1800s, with the primary crop being sugar cane. The Lalande and Toups commercial partnership ended in 1914, dating this token to earlier years.] The obverse names the partnership and town, and the reverse has a large number '50' for the token value. The diameter is approximately 33 mm (1-5/16"), and the composition is aluminum. [9542Z] This token is in very fine condition, with toning and soiling. The illustrations in this listing are photos of the actual item being offered for sale, serving as part of the description. NOTE: The actual token is lighter in color (with a better toned silver color) and brighter than in the photos. Payment must be received within ten days of close of auction.
