Description: c 1890 Ridgways Kate Greenaway 5-Pc Dresser Set ‘Mother Goose The Old Nursery Rhymes’ Reference: Doris Lechler, ‘Volume II Children’s Glass Dishes, China, and Furniture,’ p 159, bottom photo - left, for shape. This is a scarce miniature child’s dressage set with each piece having polychrome decals in Kate Greenaway designs that was taken from her ‘Mother Goose or The Old Nursery Rhymes’ series. The tray depicts the Little Miss Muffet episode with the spider. Other stories displayed are ‘Little Betty Blue,’ ‘Lucy Lockett,’ and ‘See Saw Margery Daw.’ All the pieces are done in a variety of colors, such as, brown, blue, greens, orange, pink, and yellow, and they have hand-painted edges in a medium green. The bottom of the tray is marked with the insignia for Ridgways, England. This child’s miniature 5 piece Dresser Set consists of: (1) Tray: 6.25” W x 4.875” D(2) Candlesticks: Base: 1.875” W x 3.25” H One with a top underside .1875” chip (2) Dresser Jars with Lids: 1.875” W x 1.5” H One with a .875” body hairline that terminates at the lip. Please ignore the white glare reflections in the photos. This child’s miniature Dressage Set was played with and cherished by a child and it is in excellent condition, with the exceptions noted above. Possible smudges, glaze skips, crazing and minor firing and stilt imperfections may appear sporadically typical of pieces manufactured at this period of time, but nothing that diminishes the display value.
