Description: Child’s ‘FISHERS’ Part Dinner Set CEM c 1850 Staffordshire Transferware Pearlware Reference: Doris Lechler, ‘English Toy China’, Figure No. 214, pp 83, 195-6. This is a child’s miniature partial Dinner Service with 18 pieces, transfer printed in green with a pearlware glaze in the ‘FISHERS’ pattern made by Cork Edge & Malkin, c 1850. This miniature dinner service would have been used by a child to learn proper table etiquette in the 19th century. The name of the pattern, ‘Fishers’ with C.E.&M., the maker, is printed on the bottom of most of the pieces as well as embossed ‘EDGE MALKIN’ marks. The ‘FISHERS’ pattern depicts a boy and girl sitting by the side of a river with their fishing poles; cows wading in the water near a bridge in the distance. This pattern has a circles and dart border, and the handles and flower knobs with bocage have hand painted details. This partial 18 piece Dinner Service consists of: (1) Large Tureen and Lid: 5.75”W x 4.5” D x 5” H(1) Tureen and Lid with Underplate: 4.125” W x 3.25” D x 3.75” H Underplate: 5.125” W x 4.375” D There is a minuscule firing flaw on one of the handles of the Tureen.(1) Open Dish with Handles: 4.5” W x 4” D(1) Sauce or Gravy Boat: 4” W x 2.5” D x 2.75” H There is a chip to the foot. 5 Graduated Platters:(1) 6” W x 4.5” D – with a tiny .125” mark on the bottom left.(2) 5” W x 4” D – one with a .75” firing crack.(1) 4.25” x 3.25” with a half circle firing crack.(1) 3” W x 2.25” D (4) 4” Dinner Plates(4) 2.75” Pie or Bread Plates Please excuse the white reflections in the photos. This miniature child’s 18-piece partial Dinner Service is in excellent condition with the exceptions noted above. There may be age-related crazing and occasional transfer skips or smudges, and minor typical firing imperfections that may appear sporadically consistent with production methods at the time of making.
