The red wines of Joué-lès-Tours, Saint-Avertin, Sainte-Radegonde-en-Touraine, Larçay, and Chambourg-sur-Indre come from vineyards on the left bank of the Loire River and along the Indre River. Most towns, cities, forests, and waterways are identified including Tours and Amboise (burial place of Leonardo da Vinci). The colorful and elaborate title cartouches with the coat-of-arms further enhance the map. Blaeu was founder of the leading 17th century Dutch cartographic firm. ''The achievements of the firms of Blaeu were remarkable, & the palm for supremacy in map production in any age must be awarded to the Blaeu'' (Tooley: Maps & Map-Makers, p. 33). This is an original map about 390 years old, not a reproduction. It is in nice antiquarian condition as seen in the photos. Center fold as issued. Clean and bright color. Verso (back) is Latin text. It comes with a certificate of authenticity. We have been full-time dealers in Illuminated Manuscripts, Maps, Prints and Antiquities since 1980.
