Description: This is a rare October 25th, 1925 program (playbill) from the Sixth Anniversary of the "World's Largest Theatre", the CAPITOL THEATRE in New York City. The theater was currently host to the WORLD PREMIERE screening of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer silent film "GO WEST" starring BUSTER KEATON. (The film was released nationwide on November 1st, 1925.) ..... The motion picture starred BUSTER KEATON and featured HOWARD TRUESDALE, KATHLEEN MYERS and BROWN EYES ..... CREDITS: Screenplay by BUSTER KEATON and LEX NEAL; Music composed by KONRAD ELFERS; Directed by BUSTER KEATON; Produced by BUSTER KEATON and JOSEPH M. SCHENCK ..... SIDE NOTE: The director of the Capitol Theatre was MAJOR EDWARD BOWES (June 14th, 1874 – June 13th, 1946) was one of the theater's founders. From its stage, in 1922, was broadcast the first radio program offered in a theater. Samuel F. Rothafel (Roxy) presided over these broadcasts from the Capitol Theatre until 1925, and when he left Bowes took over. Bowes began his amateur hour in 1934 as a sideline. It became so popular that more than 2,000 applications to appear were received every day. Amateur hours were not new when the Major blossomed into a front-page radio man with his amateur hour. But for years, Major Bowes became an American habit, something like the Sunday afternoon nap. Millions of people listened to him. His titles were many and diverse. He was honorary mayor of 67 cities, honorary fire chief of 57 cities, honorary police chief of 51 cities, honorary editor of 30 newspapers. He owned a stable of racing horses, three yachts, eight automobiles, and had four chefs. His salary was around $430,000 a year, or roughly about a quarter of a million dollars greater than that of his radio sponsor, Walter P. Chrysler, the automobile manufacturer. (Reprinted in part from the Winnetoba Radio website.) ..... DETAILS: The eight page program measures 5" X 7" inches and includes partial production credits and the complete list of entertainment leading up to the screening of "Go West", but no photos or bios ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing at the top right corner, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or classic film historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
