BUSTER CRABBE - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 04/17/1982 - HFSID 252016 BUSTER CRABBE Crabbe handwrote, signed and dated this letter to an Alan in 1982, a year before he died. In it he thanks Alan for some matchbook covers that apparently had Crabbe's name or autograph: "Never liked the 'LARRY' - The studio (Paramount) did that feeling that 'Buster' was too juvenile - Perhaps they were right". Autograph letter signed "Buster" in blue ink. 1 page, 7¼x10¼, on Crabbe's personalized stationery from Scottsdale, Arizona. April 17, 1982. In full: "Dear Alan- Just a note to say thanks for sending along the match covers [not included]. Never liked the 'LARRY' - The studio (Paramount) did that feeling that 'Buster' was too juvenile - Perhaps they were right - Personal Regards". Crabbe (1908-1983, born Clarence Linden Crabbe in Oakland, California), who won the Gold Medal in the 400-meter swim at the 1932 Olympic games, went on to star in over 100 adventure films, many set in outer space (most as Flash Gordon) and the Wild West (as Billy "the Kid" Carson). In 1933, Crabbe also starred as Tarzan in the Principal Pictures 16-part serial film. Ironically, in winning his Olympic medal, Crabbe had broken the record set by MGM's rival Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller. Lightly toned and creased. Folded twice and unfolded.
