Description: For sale is a Buffet R13 manufactured during the peak of the Buffet's Golden Era, in 1974 (s/n 143xxx). The period from the mid-60s to the late 70s is called Golden Era of Buffet's production because they used naturally seasoned wood (20 years!) and the instruments were hand finished by the artisans in the Paris factory. Later, Buffet started using autoclaves to prepare the wood and reduced the amount of hand-finishing by using more precise machinery. This clarinet is in nearly pristine shape (for its age)- no cracks, slight plating wear, mechanically perfect. All tenons fit nicely- please, check the pictures. No play in keys. The clarinet underwent a complete overhaul, to the professional standard. Keys removed, body cleaned and treated with sweet almond oil. Tone holes surfaces checked for imperfections; only a couple needed to be re-finished-this is a crucial step that ensures good pad seal. All keys checked for play, posts checked for looseness - none was found. New high-quality tenon corks installed. All new key bumpers/corks. All new Gore-Tex Buffet style pads, except for two cork pads in the register and C#/G# keys. Key height opening/venting regulated to achieve the best response and tuning. Springs tension adjusted for comfortable playing. The clarinet holds air pressure and vacuum. It is ready to be played at any venue. The Golden Era R13s are known for their tone quality-they sound warm and focused-more focused than clarinets produced after 1980. Up until 80s, Buffet used naturally seasoned wood, which contributed to the tonal qualities. This clarinet is no exception- the sound is focused and warm; tuning is better compared to earlier R13s (with my MP). The original 66mm barrel is in excellent shape, with tenon sockets tight on both sides. The original case is in decent shape, esp. considering its age, although there are minor dings and superficial scratches, mostly on the corners and some fabric discolorations- please see the pictures. The latches work fine. This very nice instrument will superbly serve a player of any level- from a beginner to a pro. Please, check the high-res pictures- they are part of the description. More pictures can be taken upon request.Do not hesitate to ask questions- I am happy to answer, usually within 24 hrs. Also, please keep in mind that the instrument is over 50 years of age and does have usual markings associated with age like small dings and scratches but there are no cracks, chips or other serious wood damage. This clarinet was overhauled which could cost anywhere from $500 and up: For example: $750 and up at Lisa's clarinet shop: $700 to get it done at Saxquest: ***All reasonable offers will be considered.
