Description: This listing is for ONE (1) Inspection Cap Removal Tool to fit most Post War 1960-82 British motorcycles. This tool is especially suited for the Norton Commando in that the large end is for use on the large primary inspection caps of the primary cover. The small end will fit the small inspection caps found on Norton, Triumph and BSA models. The dimensions of the tool are detailed in this description. Be sure to check the measurements to ensure that it will be of use to you. Anything is better than gouges from a flat screwdriver making your precious engine an eyesore. This is a 4" long flat steel tool designed to remove inspection caps by hand. If need be, a steel rod or screwdriver can be inserted into the hole or vice grips clamped onto the tool for more leverage. You don't have to worry about scratching the tool. The small insertion part of the tool is 2.58 mm or .102 " thick and 1" in width. The larger end is 4.97 mm or .196" thick and 1.50" in width. This tool will remove all small, medium and large caps on your beast. It is not stainless steel, so we suggest keeping the tool wrapped in an oily rag. Oily rags should be a common enough item to find if you own a Brit bike. If you don't own an older British bike yet, consider getting one. Supply is limited. NOTE: If you are working on an old bike that has not had the inspection caps removed for half of a century, we suggest cleaning the area with a toothbrush and soap. Apply a little penetrating oil and wait a few minutes before using the tool. You may need to repeat this procedure and/or go back and forth to get the cap loose. We have had to use propane and/or a punch with a hammer on some really deteriorated caps. Sometimes the threads will come out with a seized plug. Sometimes it is easier to work with a stubborn chain case plug on the bench. Be careful this relatively simple job does have the potential to become a disaster.
