Description: BOYS NIGHT OUT by Robert W. Krepps - Gold Medal 1211 / May 1962 - PBO 1st prtg Novelization of the 1962 MGM romantic comedy film. Features an all-star cast: Kim Novak, James Garner, Tony Randall, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Jim Backus, Howard Duff, Oskar Homolka, William Bendix, Larry Keating, Janet Blair, Patti Page, Fred Clark. Financed by Novak's Kimco production company and Filmways Pictures – and, it turned out, its first and last production – "Boys' Night Out" was intended to resurrect Novak's career, which had hit a snag at the age of 29 with the death of Columbia Pictures' production head Harry Cohn, but it was not a financial or critical success. According to MGM records, it incurred a loss of $262,000. Although Novak's career was not resurrected, it did propel James Garner's forward. Garner wrote in his memoirs that Novak "was more interested in her makeup than the script." After seeing their boss with his mistress, four work friends (James Garner, Tony Randall, Howard Duff, Howard Morris) decide they should get a gentleman's pad in the city. When Fred (Garner), the only bachelor in the group, rents an apartment for their dalliances, he meets gorgeous Cathy (Kim Novak), whom he hires to be their "housekeeper." Cathy lets them all make plays for her but has no intention of sleeping with them -- she is merely doing research for her sociology thesis.
