The four layers makes it a "Quatre" which of course means 4 in French. More importantly, it is a specific desirable design for Boucheron for necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc.. What makes this one rare is that one does not typically see all of the various types of gold making "the cake." Stunning. This one is truly rare, excellent condition and a versatile elegant option to wear for a wonderful evening out. Some final words on the Maison de Boucheron. Boucheron was founded in 1858 by Frederic Boucheon and he set up the shop in the arcades of the Palais Royale. From his vantage point, he could see a cannon that was fired at high-noon everyday to help Parisians set their timepiece (e.g., pocket watches). The cannon had the phrasing "Je ne Sonne que les Heures Heureuses" engraved into. Frederic was smitten by the cannon and as such Frederic often set to engraving the same phrasing into his fine timepieces. Any potential buyer of this fine jewelry should also know the cool history of "Le Maison de Boucheron." The House of Boucheron is a French family dynasty founded by Frederic in 1858 with the opening of the first store in the Galerie de Valois at Palais-Royal. The namesake atelier was created in 1866 and one year later won the Gold Medel during the Exposition Universelle of 1867. In 1893, Boucheron moved to Place Vendome as the first jeweler to set-up shop at that location. It choose the sunniest corner of the edifice as it would make its fine diamonds and finishing work sparkle the most. In that same year, it set-up a shop in Moscow and now has a handful of other boutiques in the major cosmopolitan cities around the world. There is history with a Maharajah as well. In August 1928, during a visit to Paris, Bhupinder Singh, otherwise known as the Maharajah of Patiala, walked across the Place Vendome from his suite at the nearby Ritz carrying iron safes filled with thousands of diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls. He had a hefty entourage of Sikh guards with him of course. The Maharajah presented this massive haul to Louis Boucheron (son of Frederic) for a very special order. And Louis then made 149 different designs from the gems and those designs still influence the design, ethos and DNA of Boucheron's jewelry and timepiece flourishes today. Lastly, if you need one further bit of convincing, about the elegance of La Maison de Boucheron consider this point of fact. Rich... not affluent... truly rich... customers can stay at a stunning appartment above the Place Vendome store for one night as a courtesy from Boucheron. It has stunning Eiffel Tour views and is in the best location in Paris. It is rumored that to get this level of free pampering you have to spend over one million euros on Boucheron's fine products. Suffice to say, this necklace purchase from me does not qualify. But one can dream.
