Description: Title Study on Bonsai Bonsai no KenkyuAuthor Kobayashi ToshioPublication Year 1931It has approx 251 pages. This is a very rare book on Bonsai. It is written by Kobayashi Toshio, who is the founder of Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition. It was published in 1931. The first Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (now the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum) in March of 1934, during the 9th year of the Showa era. This book was published three years before the inaugural Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition, making it suitable for understanding the bonsai scene in Japan at that time. Bonsai is buried within the realm of solitary hobby gardening, which is quite disheartening. Bonsai, in addition to being a splendid form of art along with painting and sculpture, is not only a unique Japanese art but also one that aspires to shine internationally. It is lamentable that in Japan, it is in a state of being "hidden in the shadow of the lighthouse" when it is on the verge of radiating internationally. I have been studying bonsai art for just over a decade. During this time, I was ridiculed by friends who didn't understand, and even faced opposition from my family. Nonetheless, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to the emerging Japanese art of bonsai. He tirelessly searched for and collected materials, built the soil, watered the plants, consulted with predecessors, and conducted practical research. Some of this work was occasionally published in the monthly "Bonsai" magazine, which he founded. This book is a culmination of that journey and further research conducted thereafter. About Kobayashi Toshio He was a bonsai researcher in the Taisho to Showa eras, born on April 1, 1889, during the 22nd year of the Meiji era. He was also the brother of Yu Kobayashi. While working as a journalist for the Tokyo Shimbun (now Tokyo Newspaper), he concurrently edited the official magazine "Bonsai" for the Dai-Nippon Bonsai Shorenkai (Great Japan Bonsai Promotion Association). Later, he became the publisher himself, continuing in this role until 1967. He contributed significantly to the promotion of bonsai. The founder of the Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition.
