The Sugar/Pie Pumpkin- 100 days, 2-7 lbs, Round to round-flat, with distinct ribs, ornamental with excellent eating quality. Best used for pie filling, breads, preserving, and other pumpkin based recipes Connecticut Field -120 days, 15-25 lbs, fruit measures 12-20" in diameter. This is an old heirloom variety with an interesting history dating back to the Native Americans. Traditionally grown in fields after the corn was harvested. Used for hog/cattle feed (chickens love them too!), possibly for making beer and is considered the original Halloween pumpkin. Can be cooked and eaten, but not preferred. Seeds are harvested, washed, and sorted by hand, then layed out on screens to air dry in a temperature and humidity controlled environment for 30-60 days to prevent mold growth. Anything left of the skins, stems, and fruit is transferred to the composter and added back to the garden the following year. All seeds are grown and harvested in the TN/KY area.
