The GBSCC has sponsored a huge 3-day November show, now held at the Shriner's Auditorium, Wilmington, Massachusetts, for decades. Years ago, at GBSCC monthly meetings, attractive limited edition baseball cards were distributed to attendees to promote club activities. Most were titled "Cards That Never Were" and featured a baseball legend from the past in a card design in which he never appeared. This is a special commemorative card honoring the 1948 National League champion Boston Braves, picturing Bob Elliott, 1947 N.L. Most Valuable Player. Each measures the modern standard, 2-1/2 by 3-1/2 inches, features quality card stock and utilizes a classic format. In this particular case, it is in the 1959 Bazooka Gum baseball card design. Always ranking among the league leaders in such categories as doubles, homers, hits, extra base hits, RBI and bases on balls, Bob led all National Leaguers in walks (1948) with 131, wresting major league leadership in that department from Ted Williams who received 126 free passes!
